Hey there!
II'm Kimmie, a children's book illustrator and author based in Sweden. For over a decade, I've been painting whimsical tales with acrylics and digital magic.
From children's books to album covers, my work dances between the ordinary and the extraordinary, always with a dash of whimsy and weirdness.
Beyond art, I wear many hats (and have worn many more). I'm a studio musician, playing guitar and bass—mostly on my little brother Challe's records. I also serve as a songwriting consultant for him and we own a music production company together (Charomaz Productions). My creative journey has been shaped by a patchwork of experiences. I started my working career as a textile printing operator, transferring artists' and illustrators' work onto cloth. It always made me mad because I knew I could create art just as well—but I didn’t give myself permission to imagine art as my career back then.
Later, I worked as a caretaker at my town's church and even studied theology for a while. My first year as an illustrator was a whirlwind—jobs came pouring in, but then they dried up. So, I kept illustrating while juggling other jobs. I worked as a metal press operator and tool setter in the car industry, bleeding oil by day and painting by night, all while raising four kids. Those five years were a blur, running on four hours of sleep a night. When I injured my back, I had to pivot again.
Since then, I've worked as a cleaner, a baker in a breadcrumb factory, and a gardener. But through all of it, illustrating has been my constant—a thread tying all my roles together.
When I'm not lost in creativity, you'll find me lifting weights or soaking up moments with my wonderful family.
Cheers,
Kimmie
My biggest art dreams
I’ve put together a list of dream projects that I’d love to work on—some of which are probably aspirations many illustrators share, while others may be a bit more unique. Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, I, like many other artists from that era, was deeply influenced by Harry Potter. Naturally, one of my ultimate goals would be to illustrate covers for those books.
For me, dream projects are often rooted in the stories that shaped my childhood. For instance, I would love to create my own illustrated versions of classic fairy tales, such as those by the Brothers Grimm—perhaps with a unique twist. I’ve always had a soft spot for The Three Little Pigs, and reimagining that story would be an exciting challenge. My favorite version of The Three Little Pigs is illustrated by Valérie Michaut, whose work has influenced me from childhood to the present day.
Another project I’d love to undertake is a new version of Pippi Longstocking. I grew up with Astrid Lindgren’s books and have always adored the character of Pippi.
I’m also drawn to weird and quirky themes. Characters like Beetlejuice, Snusmumriken, and Dunderklumpen particularly resonate with me. I love their enigmatic, almost spirit-like nature—they're not the central focus of the story but instead serve as mischievous or helpful figures in the hero's journey. When their role is fulfilled, they vanish, embarking on new adventures we never get to see. That sense of mystery is something I’d love to capture in my work.
Beyond children's books, I’m also passionate about point-and-click adventure games. I’ve always loved games like Monkey Island and would jump at the chance to work on anything related to that franchise—perhaps even adapting it into a book.
Of all the projects on my list, though, the one that stands out the most is Discworld. I’ve read more than half of the series, and I’m especially drawn to characters like Rincewind, Twoflower, and Moist von Lipwig. Bringing Discworld to life through illustration would be a dream come true, especially since Josh Kirby, who originally painted the covers for Discworld, is my favorite artist.
